Don The Eel Scientist Visit Friday 22 March Hello Today we had a visit from an eel scientist who works for N.I.W.A which stands for National Institute of Water and Atmosphere. He taught us lots.  Here are the facts he taught us. Eels can swim forward and backwards. Female long fin eels grow to 2 metres and males to 1 meter. Eel have an ear bone that grow a line on it every day year so  you can take it out to see their age but sadly you have to kill them. Long fin eels are cannibals and will eat almost anything. To hunt they wait then strike when something goes past and try to rip the flesh off.  If they can't they spin round and round very fast - 10 times a second!! Eels eat duckling and when they eat crabs when they poop out the claws so that their bottom turns red! Eels pump water through their gills to survive. The population in Juba  is 450,000. It is not save to travel on the roads you will most likely get robbed. They most commonly travel by planes that usually hold 12 people. A one hundred dollar South Sudanese note is worth so 30 cents new Zealand money. The most common food is water mixed with flour until it turns to sludge. The other most common foods are rice and beans. Children are not encouraged to go to school. In South Sudan cows are money lots of

We found out that this thing called fossil water exists.  Fossil water is only in some countries it is water that's very very deep down. Another thing we learn you can convert sea water into freshwater but it's very expensive. They said  we will never run out of water because of the water cycle. Thanks for reading, Bryn

Hello This week has been amazing ever!  The most interesting thing was the eel trip on Thursday. My favourite activity was the the ephemeral nature art. For our eel art we made an eel out of dry grass and half of a chestnut shell. At one of the activities, we were seeing which eels were  long finned and  which were short finned.

It kept flipping so I added a piece of cardboard on the bottom.  We also made a hut outside it had beanbags and cushions in it we made it out of chairs and blankets. Thanks for reading, Bryn
