Weekly Update 24 May Hello Yesterday we played rugby for winter sport much nicer than last week though. The weather was fantastic, sunshine and no wind. Our first game was against St Martins school they were tough but we bet them. The only reason we bet them is because our players are quick and they made a few sneaky runs. The second game was just as hard we versed Addington. They had one quick guy who was really good at stepping he made some quick runs to the try line. Still we bet them because we tackled well and ripped the ball. And got it out to the fast people and they found the gaps and ran for it. So winter sport was really good. In Religious education we have been learning about Mary the mother of Jesus. We had to record a couple of sentences of each of the important events in Mary's life in buddy's. After we finished that we did this fun activity about art history. Where we searched up a famous painting of each of the important events in Mary's life. I did a...
Batten Team Air Force Museum Visit Hello on Tuesday the 5 of November some of the batten team went to the air force museum. There were two special people there who are apart of the RNZAF that's the royal New Zealand air force. They told us about themselves one of them had been in the air force since he was 17. They have been to countries that are having wars to start a peace program. Kate mainly flew a massive plane called the Hercules, Herc for short. She did missions like dropping off supplies in countries that don't have enough supplies. They told us a story about a very brave man called Sargent Ward so they were doing a bombing raid on Germany. On the way back they were attacked by a German aircraft and Sargent Ward planes wing was set on fine and the captain said to him go put that out so he climbed onto the wing he had to dig his feet in to put it out he was successful. All seven people on the aircraft survived because of him he was awarded a victoria cross for his b...
Don The Eel Scientist Visit Friday 22 March Hello Today we had a visit from an eel scientist who works for N.I.W.A which stands for National Institute of Water and Atmosphere. He taught us lots. Here are the facts he taught us. Eels can swim forward and backwards. Female long fin eels grow to 2 metres and males to 1 meter. Eel have an ear bone that grow a line on it every day year so you can take it out to see their age but sadly you have to kill them. Long fin eels are cannibals and will eat almost anything. To hunt they wait then strike when something goes past and try to rip the flesh off. If they can't they spin round and round very fast - 10 times a second!! Eels eat duckling and when they eat crabs when they poop out the claws so that their bottom turns red! Eels pump water through their gills to survive. Females eels - the number of eggs they lay is massive it is 7-20 million eggs!!! It takes 5 months for the eels to swim to Tonga. This i...
